Race Relations Day

On Thursday 21st March we had a Race Relations Day at Methven Primary School.  We all had to come dressed as the ethnic group that our families belong to.

In Barrhill Room we had people from New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, Holland, Ireland, England and Wales.

Barrhill Room was a ray of colours.  Below are some photos of our day.

Can you guess which ethnic group we belong to.

Descriptive Writing

At the moment we are looking at adding more description to our writing.  We have done lots of descriptive writing about different objects/pictures, trying to make our writing more exciting.

This week we have been designing our own monsters and writing a description of it for others to draw.  We had fun trying to draw other monsters from what we read!  Below are some examples of our descriptions.

Barrhill Room

I have a hungry monster named Armstrong.
My hungry monster has an oval yellow body but no head.  Armstrong has two eyes, one black eye and one white eye on his body.
He has three vicious tentacles on each side of his body.
My hungry monster has four blue legs with clawed feet.

I have a cloud monster named Spotty.
It has a cloud shape body with spots on it.  It is blue.
It has long arms and legs.  The legs are golden with red feet.  Her arms are blue and purple with green hands.  It has one yellow eye with brown eyelashes.
She has a light blue triangle shaped nose and a dark blue semi circle mouth with sharp teeth.  She is really funny and silly.

3 Way Conferences

On Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th March we had our MPS 3 way conferences.  Our parents came in and we shared what we have been working on in class and set goals for the next 2 terms.

This was a little scary as we were running our conferences by OURSELVES (with Miss Ish giving guidance every now and then)  We identified the areas that we need to work on at home and school to ensure that we keep progressing with our learning.

Miss Ish was very proud of each child in Barrhill for doing such a wonderful job.  She looks forward to seeing us progressing along with our learning during the rest of term 1 and through into term 2.

In term 3 we will ask our parents in again to share our learning with them, reflect the goals that we set for term 1 & 2 and set new ones for term 3 & 4.

We would like to thank our parents for taking the time out of their busy days to come into school and be part of our 3 way conferences.  We look forward to talking to you again in term 3.

Below are some photos of some children taking the 3 way conference.

Making Comments on blog

Hi Parents/Caregivers and family of Barrhill children,

A few of you have told me that you have been having a difficult time with trying to post a comment.

I have talked to those who know more than I on blogs (Mr Cooke) and he said that after you type your comment, there is a little grey box down below it that says comment as -  you need to click on that and change it to anonymous.

Hopefully this will work.  Let me know.
Good luck!!

Swimming Lessons

Today we started our swimming lessons.  We got to the pool and were put into 4 groups.  Some of us were in the big pool and some in the little pool.  We did lots of floating on our fronts and backs, freestyle stroke, back stroke and some of us even got even tried breast stroke.

We had lots of fun today and we are looking forward to what we will get to do tomorrow.  We have added some photos and hopefully a few videos.

We would love to see your comments and any questions that you might have.  We will try to answer them.
